What Is an OCSC Medical Certificate?
An OCSC Medical Certificate is an important medical document used to certify the physical and mental health of an applicant who intends to apply for a civil service position in Thailand. What Prohibited Diseases Are Specified by the OCSC in the Medical Certificate?
The OCSC medical certificate for civil service applications must include a complete health assessment and screening for prohibited diseases in accordance with the OCSC Regulation on Diseases B.E. 2566 (2023). The groups of prohibited diseases are as follows:
1. Latent TB or Active TB
A respiratory disease caused by infection with a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The severity of the disease can be classified into two stages: latent tuberculosis infection and active (symptomatic) tuberculosis, which can spread to people in close contact.
2. Elephantiasis (Lymphatic Filariasis)
A disease caused by filarial roundworms that infect the lymphatic system. Patients with noticeable symptoms often develop abnormalities in various body parts, such as swelling of the arms, legs, or breasts, due to blockage of the lymphatic vessels beneath the skin.
3. Drug Addiction
A condition affecting individuals with a history of substance abuse, such as heroin, amphetamines, methamphetamine, morphine, or inhalants. This can lead to physical health deterioration, agitation, hallucinations, loss of self-control, and a persistent need to use drugs.
4. Chronic Alcoholism
A condition affecting individuals with a long history of excessive alcohol consumption. It results in persistent cravings for alcoholic beverages, inability to control drinking behavior, and impairment that interferes with work performance.
5. Communicable Disease or Chronic Disease
Serious communicable or chronic diseases include, for example, smallpox, plague, rabies, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), chronic kidney failure, dementia, psychiatric disorders, and other significant medical conditions.
Individuals with these serious communicable diseases may spread infections to people in close contact, or their medical conditions may hinder the performance of official duties and constitute grounds for dismissal from government service.
